Big Gamble Pays Off

Last week's results clarified and clouded. Did age triumph over beauty or vice versa? No matter your perspective you just cannot say no to the beauty and the beast.

On the soccer field it became crystal who will glitter in the Gold division and whose tarnished reputations will reside in the Silver state. But the Pints' sweet 3-1 revenge over the stumbling Mooners combined with the Panthers 6-5 OK Corral like victory over the out-of-luck Wright Stuff means we can no longer assume the domain of the Dunning Cup will be Grimm's trophy cabinet. It is now almost "menage a trois" atop Le Division D'Or with the Chuters also keeping pace as they benefitted from AARP squandering two golden PK opportunities. PKs were put away on both sides of the fence in the Peppers-Chaingang clash; a near run thing finally decided by a delicate defensive deflection that delivered double-delight for Reno 's newly crowned Princess of Pace.

The Case of the Dazzling Green Shorts... (AD)

For those who were there last Thursday evening the passing of the RSCSL Sprint Crown was both dramatic and colorful.  The air of anticipation gripped all seated upon the embankment at South Valleys .

The presentation to the growing crowd of the two courageous and competitive athletes resulted in a flurry of last minute donations increasing the money raised to $1,450!  A fantastic effort and response to two noble causes by all.

Would the wile and guile of the league's seasoned President, Andrew T, motivated by his patriotic England shirt inspire him to victory? Or would young Shelly G's sleek and glitzy form hugging Kermit shorts enable her to leap out in to an early lead?

Just before 6pm the defender and challenger took there positions at the start line and the crowd rose as one in anticipation.  The starters horn sounded and the race began as the crowd cheered.  Shelly's bright green shorts responded first and soon she had indeed bounded in to a lead.  But Andrew, his England shirt flapping in Shelly's slip stream was holding on.

Could he catch her in the second 50 the crowd wondered...?  But Shelly strode powerfully on to a well earned victory as she hit the finishing tape and felt the breeze of the finishing flag being waved by Karen H and Chris T.  Our generous sprinters even ran a reprise for the B&G Club children to enjoy.  Very gracious….

A bottle of champagne was presented and photos taken by Richmond B and Steve C.  Both runners received congratulations from all who had gathered.  As everyone dispersed to their games their thoughts included wondering who could challenge Shelly...

The Sprint Crown has passed from not just old to young, but from male to female; in true coed fashion.

On behave of all involved we thank you for your support and generosity.  The two charities are very thankful to all for your donations.  A truly great response.

So, will you be Shelly's first challenger?
