Rodriguez Ends 6 Year Goal Drought

I am sure other milestones were reached last week but after bumping into Chris at the weekend she begged me to give her top billing. So for all you league historians out there – here it is - Chris Rodriguez, veteran member of the league finally hit the ol’ onion bag, netting her first RSCSL goal ever and securing a hard-earned tie for the Chaingang and shackling the table-climbing ambitions of Lift ‘n Pints, At the other end of the spectrum, Paul “Rooney” Roberti just cannot stop scoring. His clinical finishing brought an impressive hat trick that propelled him back to the apex of the goal scoring charts; much to the chagrin of his reeling rabid Reno rivals and the extremely irritated Blue Mooners.

“One more week,” is not the answer from BP executives but it is the answer to the second most asked question of the last week in RSCSL circles, “When do we move to South Valleys ?” Barring any unforeseen circumstances this week will be our last in the frozen north; the great southerly migration is scheduled to take place on June 17th. Stay tuned – confirmation will come soon.

The second most asked question of me this past week has been – “How will the US do against England on the 12th?” My heart says Wayne “Roberti” Rooney will lead my boys to a crushing victory just like Cornwallis at Yorktown….and while you are all double-checking your history books; for the record I think it will be a 2-2 tie (with or without Ferdinand).

World Cup Wager

Kim Wilkins is trying to raise the stakes on all those World Cup games you will be watching over the next few weeks. Not only does she want you to become emotionally invested but also financially. Of course this might mean stepping away from your heart and looking at the games through the prism of harsh reality.

It is a simple process – no guessing scores, no predicting exact brackets all you have to do is pick the two finalists and pony up $5 for the pool. If you pick right, you will see a return on your investment. You could take it all, or you may have to share with the other geniuses who also got it right. If no one wins, the pool will be donated to the league coffers. I see no reason why you cannot make multiple predictions, so long as you offer multiple $5…

Send your predictions before June 11th to Kim Wilkins at wilkinskim@hotmail.com or kwilkins@sugarbowl.com or look for her at Coney Island after the games on Thursday. I am sure she will come up with a way of extracting the $5 from your pockets….

Go with your gut, go with your brain, or if you are crazy (like me) go with your heart.

Use the World Cup links on this website to assist you in your predictions.

Game Postponement Policy

Although I am now optimistic that the questionable weather is behind us it is advised that you check your email at 3pm on a game day just in case a postponement has to be announced.

By the way good weather is now defined as anything above 32 degrees Fahrenheit, wind speeds below 50 mph with precipitation of any kind and intensity.

Next Kids’ Night Out at Home Field Athletics June 19th

Also at Home Field Athletics – Once a month on a Saturday (sometimes more) Home Field hosts “Kids’ Night Out” for 1st through 6th graders. Drop the kids off; go out for dinner and a movie; secure that your kids are safe (or not experimenting with the cat…). Organize a team group and Home Field will make a donation to the team. Call Home Field for details at 851-0770.
