Rainy Days and Coed Cancellations are Always on My Mind

Well, it finally happened. We had a rain out. We have had smoke outs and lightning bolts and now finally a rain out. I know, I know it probably be would have been OK but the county closed the fields at North Valley. Oddly, I am sure the fields were not as wet as the week the county left the sprinklers on! However, I will say I was close to the NV valley location and it did come down in quite quantifiable amounts. For the sake of simplicity I decided to postpone all the games. Apologies if you did not get notification in time; a valiant effort to reach everyone was made. Whenever, you are suspicious of conditions it is worth giving your email a final check before leaving.

Last week’s postponed games will be played this week. Options to avoid losing a round of games are being explored. Adding an extra game on weekday evening is on the table as is sneaking in a Sunday morning affair. Stay tuned on that.

Do You Remember? Do You Recall?

The collective amnesia of your captains prompts me to ask members of the yellow and white team this question: Did you score in your last game (May 14th)? Our records are incomplete. Be honest!

Sports Illustrated – The Old Soccer Outfit Edition

Would anyone like to send me a picture or two of themselves (or fellow league members) in soccer gear from years gone by? I was thinking it would be good opportunity to scan old pictures into your computer. Be a sport, email a picture or two to me at

Help Wanted

Looking for that big chance to coach in the big leagues? Well, McQueen High School is looking for a JV Girls coach. If you are interested, or know someone who is, contact 11-year RSCSL veteran Tony “the Godfather of Reno Youth Soccer” Filicchia at

If you have not paid, don’t forget. You can go to the website, find me at the fields, or send a check to RSCSL at 5694 Tappan Drive, Reno Nv, 89523. My Sicilian cousins are helping me line the fields….

We are a social league. We like to get together after the games (it certainly helps us get over games that maybe got a wee bit chippy). When we are playing at North Valleys, folk gravitate to Archies on North Virginia near UNR, or maybe even next door to the Little Waldorf. Those playing in the south head to Lamppost Pizza near RC Willey. Those playing at Reno High often gather for a post game post mortem at The Truckee River Bar & Grill, a mere stone’s throw from the field. By the second half of the season we are all playing down south, so we all go to Lamppost.
