The Pulse of the People

It was another goal fest at South Valley , especially on the upper fields, 20 net rippers in all. I think it might be related to the defenses. Everyone switched from upper to lower and so did the goal scoring… go figure. I should also alert all those with ambitions on wearing the Golden Boot this season that the aging Blue Mooners star Marian Vlad the Impaler has now bagged consecutive hat tricks and is beginning his march to untold glory – eat your heart out David Villa. Anyhow you have to admit the RSCSL is good on the eyes; and great value for your entertainment dollar.

Bar None

We have now settled nicely into our new post-game retreat – Lamppost Pizza and I want to encourage you all to join in the camaraderie. It is amazing how all those niggling little exchanges on the field can be washed away by a tasty beverage. Now on the topic of post game revelry it has been observed by one of our more storied players that some teams party far more hardy than others. He is confident that if points were awarded for pitcher consumption the Blue Mooners and Pink Panthers might well be running away with the Dunning Cup – no doubt to fill with beer. I think what he is trying to say is that the league is not just about soccer but making some new friends – he is encouraging you to join in afterwards, and beer is not even required. You should know that Lamppost is a very family friendly pizza parlor.

Pick Yourself Up, Dust Yourself and Start All Over Again

Every four years (actually 2 if you consider European Championships) since 1970 I have said that to myself. Once again the England team has shattered my heart. This occasion seems even more perplexing – I am not sure the players cared that much. At least Gazza cried in 1990. Capello seemed more distraught. Well, with the USA also exiting a tad prematurely I think the citizens of my second home are beginning to understand my angst. One day I might actually publish my magnum opus on this topic – it is a tragedy of Shakespearean proportions. And in this most recent Act, a dagger has been driven into my ribs and then twisted by some Uruguayan referee who no doubt has some Germanic ties in his family tree.

The Nike Curse

Think about the epic Nike soccer commercial for a few moments. Think of those made icons (or is that Nikons? No, that’s a camera) by this footwear behemoth. Now think of how many have taken early baths….

By the way – go see Toy Story 3 – an absolute delight.

Game Postponement Policy

Although I am now optimistic that the questionable weather is behind us it is advised that you check your email at 3pm on a game day just in case a postponement has to be announced.

By the way good weather is now defined as anything above 32 degrees Fahrenheit, wind speeds below 50 mph with precipitation of any kind and intensity acceptable.
