A Wee Bit Rushed

Sorry it’s late – been out of town. Our first week at South Valley was greeted with warmer weather and yes, you guessed it, wind. Having everyone at the same locale certainly buoys the mood as well as improve attendance for post-game revelry and rivalry. Just to remind everyone - we now go to LAMPPOST Pizza, near R.C. Willey. It was also great to see Santiago “el loco” Esparza on the field so soon after surgery – I suspect his love of the game trumps any medical advice. He even scored.

South Valley certainly seems to put a shine on the shooting boots. The ball found the twine 29 times in only four games – enough even to leave Andres Cantor short of breath.  Only one team failed to burst the old onion bag.

Down under the Chaingang continue to break rocks as well as the hopes and dreams of all of those that dare to challenge them. Built from the very rocks the Chaingang break the Great Wall of Cork recorded yet another cleansheet – increasing his stock in next season’s draft – while on the field the Mellison Machine waxed lyrical with a four goal eclipse of the feeling blue Mooners. Chaingang’s Mike “I will spray paint my own boots golden” Reynolds must have believed his hat-trick would bring him back into contention for the golden boot with leading scorer McScott “Scottie” McMorton. But that was not to be as the Highland Terrier notched up four more goals – one with the head, one with the left and two with the right - as the Bhoys & Ghirls vanquished the Pints in a “this one goes up to eleven” thriller. The terrier’s teammate, McScott “Scottie” McAndrew continued a worrying trend propelling himself to top of the OG table as he netted at the wrong end in consecutive weeks. Hailing from the Antipodes, McAndrew speculated that the explanation could lie with the fact that water goes down the drain in the opposite direction in the more southerly locations of the planet. Speaking of down under back on the lower fields, Justin “pumped up kicks” Foster recorded the third hat-trick of the Solstice as he led OBG’s good old fashioned spanking of the Wright Stuff. Although disappointed by the defeat the Wright Stuff’s captains, Kate and Dean, admitted they did enjoy the “right good spanking.” Zipping back up to SVU2 the ‘Canes and Six-Pack decided to share the love in another thriller, although Six-Pack keeper Jim“hang me out to dry why don’t you” Keller, did not exactly feel the love himself. Goals from eight different pairs of cleats too numerous to mention or invent nicknames for saw the ‘Canes take the fizz out of the Six-Pack so to speak. Although there were eight different scorers there seemed to be concensus that the ref, Jimmy “why can no one ever understand me?” Huhyn did have eight assists.

A Date to Remember

Next week July 5th – there are no official games. However, some folk will be there for scrimmages if you want to play.

Another Date to Remember

Friday August 24th Women’s Soccer UNR will play Cal Poly at Mackey Stadium. I mention this as Ken Lancaster’s (Red Canes) daughter Sarah is a starter for Cal Poly. We should all gather behind the goals with TP, rattles and Vuvuzleas. Let’s do it!

League Alumni Klaus Grimm Puts out a Challenge to all you RVPs Out There

One of the league’s all time top scorers is offering $2 a goal, with one his mates chipping in another $1 per goal - which means we are at $3 a goal for charity this season. You can make a pledge too – something per goal, a favorite team mate, a flat fee, your personal goals - you name it. Make your pledge known to me (tolleygfoggy@earthlink.net) and I will keep Klaus in the loop. Last year we wound up raising over $1500. Let’s try to top it in2012. As of 6/15/2012 205 goals scored (that’s $615).
