Thursday May 29th Results

Chaingang 3 v 1 Paperless Tigers

Euro Envy 3 v 4 Golden Slumbers

OBG Stoners 5 v 2 Surgical Strikers

Real Studs 1 v 3 Bhoys & Ghirls

Quattro 1 v 1 Wright Stuff

“Wright Stuff Win the Pennant, Wright Stuff Win the Pennant, Wright Stuff Win the Pennant, Wright Stuff Win the Pennant, Wright Stuff Win the Pennant.”

That is what it sounded like as Mike Delarocca, a Wright Stuff co-captain celebrated his team’s first non-defeat of the season. Yes, the Stuff got it close to right as they tied the misfiring Quattro who seemed to be stuck in neutral.

Proving there is life after a long nap, the Golden Slumbers revival is now officially underway notching up a consecutive win on the bedpost of life with a 4-3 victory over the injury ridden Euro Envy. Not even a two-goal season debut by the league’s greatest benefactor Klaus “the Brother” Grimm and a league debut goal from Chris “#6” Smith were enough as to give Envy victory as Slumbers ditched a dose of Ambien to comeback to win 4-3.

Reno High witnessed another St. Theodore’s Day Massacre as Teddy, Teddy, Teddy Chrissinger fired off another hat-trick to blunt the incisive edge to he Strikers offence and seriously blunt their title aspirations. For the first time this season Kim and Steve have to contemplate their mantle being a little more spacious come September.

Elsewhere the Chaingang and Bhoys & Ghirls duplicated performances with 3-1 wins to serve notice that they are the teams to beat. On NV2 “mutual” respect must go the way of Paul “Longpants” Roberti who took the “liberty” to score two goals for the B&G in a not so comfortable victory over the Real Studs who ran into a sparkling performance by a certain substitute goalkeeper.

Finally, on NV1 Reggie “always mentioned” Bolden suffered an early setback as Mircea the Marvelous set him on his rear with a glorious nutmeg that put the Chaingang’s recent outrageous fortunes at the mercy of a few slings and arrows as Anna “Please, Please, Please  let me take the PKs” Thorburn failed to convert after 15 attempts from the spot. Finally, however the Silver Foxes of the Chaingang re-established the very old saying of age before beauty as they eventually put the Tigers to the sword with a comfy-chair 3-1 triumph.

World Cup Action

It is getting close. I have sent out two ways to join in all that speculative fun but just in case I am sending them again with this edition of the Goalpost.  If you are wondering where to watch games, well the Sportsdome is open for all of them and the league will be get involved for some of the more high profile games – especially England’s last game – the final!

You Gotta Watch England Win Somewhere or at least Watch a Grown Englishman Cry Somewhere.

You may have already made some decisions about where you are going to watch World Cup Games but consider these options. The Sportsdome will be hosting all the games and you will be sure to run into some buddies there. League member Jason Cole is suggesting the Chapel Tavern (1099 S Virginia St  Reno, NV  775.324.2244) and  40 Mile Saloon (1495 S Virginia St  Reno, NV 775.323.1877) and league member Chris Kahl, owner of the Old Bridge Pub and a home of the American Outlaws will surely be putting on a few games.

A Few Rule Reminders

1.    You do NOT need permission from the ref to sub in/out but you should wait for a dead ball situation to do so.

2.    There is no slide TACKLING. You can slide to save or reach a ball so long as it is not considered dangerous to another player by the referee. Goalkeepers can slide in the box but such slides are governed by the standard rules of the game. i.e. take someone out and it is a foul!

3.    Red cards – the carded player is done for the game but he/she CAN be subbed.
